Update 07/25/2023 – FreeEats.com has suspended operations. If you’re looking for sites like FreeEats, here’s my review of 1Q.
What is FreeEats.com?
Lately I’ve been hearing about this new service that basically lets you make money using just your cell phone. As always, I’m pretty skeptical about this stuff, but I’ve decided to give it a try and see what I can learn about this. Here’s what this site is in a nutshell: they send you text messages and pay you for receiving them. These may vary, but the site seems to promote mostly paid political surveys and the like. Essentially, you join, give them your phone number and PayPal address and then wait for the magic to happen.
That sounds crappy.
Yes, except it’s not. First, they have an easy way to opt-out of their service if you should decide that you don’t want to receive text messages. You simply reply to the text with STOP. That’s it. But for those of us who wouldn’t mind using this service as a neat way to make an extra couple of bucks here and there (don’t expect to get rich, but income is income, right?), then it’s a nice side option that is just about as easy as it can get.
Is FreeEats.com a scam?
So far, they seem to be very legit. In fact, here’s what I know: I’ve joined today. I’ve been paid my signup bonus PLUS the payment for the message that was sent to me ALREADY. Here’s some payment proof if you want to see it.
It took a little bit to get the signup bonus, but it was less than a half hour in my case.
Here’s a look at my PayPal dashboard:
FreeEats.com seems to be running an (almost) instant payment feature with no minimum balance. For me, that’s a VERY awesome thing to find that you don’t see with many programs.
Hey, I thought this was the “definitive” guide…
It is. Forgive my laziness, but I decided to copy and paste this from Reddit: (UPDATE: This section was not written by me. It was written by BeatDaBest from onlinemoneyz.com)
FreeEats is an advertising network that pays you for receiving text messages from them. (You have to be in the US) (You also have to be 18 years or older although they don’t check that.)
How much do they pay?
When I registered they paid $.50 to your PayPal just for registering, but now it says on their website they will pay you $1 just for registering. After a while they send you a referral code and you get $1 whenever someones registers using your referral code.
You also get $.25 for every message you receive from them no matter whether you open it or not. Most messages will have a link to a survey that will usually pay you $1 three days after you complete it. Example: Last week I received a message with a link to a survey about music sites. The first 25 people to respond got $10, and the next 750 got $1.
How do they pay you?
They send the money to your PayPal account right after you receive the message. If you take any surveys, you should get the money within 3 days after completing them.
How much have you earned so far?
I’ve made $3.25 cents in a week, but $2.25 of that was completely passive.
Here is the payment proof on Imgur!
How many phones can I register?
On their site it says you can register as many phones as you want as long as it’s a valid number that you own.(You can also complete the surveys once per each phone number that you have connected to your account)
Can I refer myself?
Even though you’re allowed to register multiple phone numbers, my assumption is that referring yourself will be frowned upon because the $1 they pay you for referring people is supposed to be for new users. (Please correct me if I’m wrong on this!)
How many messages will I receive?
I’ve been using it for a little more than a week, and I’ve received a total of 3 messages each one coming 3 days after the other. However, on their website they say that you will receive “no more than 2 per day, with an annual per user cap of $699″. They might’ve been sending out 2 per day during the elections, but now that that’s over with, it’s about 2-3 messages a week max.
I didn’t get my referral link, where is it?
Wait for 3-4 days because sometimes it takes a while to receive it. After that email help@FreeEats.com with information about your phone number saying that you didn’t receive your referral link.
How much money total can I earn from referrals?
You can earn a maximum of $50 from referrers right now, although that could change in the future.
Can you break down your earnings so far?
I made $.75 from 3 texts I received.
$.50 for signing up. (EDIT: Currently, it’s $1.00 for signing up – ws)
$1 for a referral.
$1 for a completed survey.
How do I stop them from sending me texts?
“Send an email to optout@freeeats.com or reply STOP to a text message from FreeEats.com.”
Do google voice numbers work for this?
According to dwappo, they do not work… 🙁
Anything else I should know?
Make sure the email you put in during registration is the same one as your PayPal one so they know where to send the money.
There you have it. A ton of awesome information about FreeEats.com and their system. I think it looks awesome, and over the next few weeks I’m going to see how well it works and then do an update when I have more information.
Join FreeEats.com today and get $1.00 just for joining! Update: FreeEats seems to be gone now, but Slidejoy is better! Check them out!
Oh…one more thing…
You also get paid $1.00 per referral. I think you see how this should work. If you have questions, feel free to leave them in the comments section below.

You can try to go through the signup again and see if it works. Also, if you can sign into the site, you can get your referral link in there.
I value the blog post.Really thank you! Really Cool.
Thank you!
I signed up, PayPal is set up should be good. no $1, no text, no response from support.
I feel like they haven’t been as active lately. Which email did you contact? If you haven’t, try admin@freeeats.com. I don’t know if that will help, but it might be worth trying.
What a great post! I love FreeEats! I’m sad to see that they shut down the referrals.
Thank you! I’m kinda bummed that they shut it down, too, but I feel like that’s par for the course for these smaller businesses. There are plenty of other options out there though, although they may use slightly different models to pay. I’ve been trying to focus a bit more on using Slidejoy (app that pays you to allow ads on your phone lock screen) and receipt rewards programs like Ibotta lately…they seem to be actually more stable.
Here’s a write-up on my three favorite rebate apps: http://thesugarbuzzproject.net/rebate-apps-that-pay-you-for-receipts/
I haven’t done a post on Slidejoy yet, but I should get that done soon. Meanwhile, here’s the link to their site:

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I really appreciate your efforts and I will be waiting for your next post thanks
once again.
Great post! We will be linking to this great content on our website.
Keep up the great writing.
