Using Craigslist to Drive Traffic to Your Blog

Welcome back! Have you joined my mailing list yet?

This week, something political was happening that I felt was very...bad. So I wrote up a post (or a couple plus an email) and put it on one of my blogs. It was so major that I even posted it to Craigslist in my local area.

Somebody also thought it was a good idea, and posted it to their local Craigslist page.

If you have a good blog post that you feel should be shared with people, don't be afraid to throw it to the wolves at Craigslist (specifically in the categories like Music, Politics, etc.). You never know how much traffic will come in from it.

In my case, the post caused a major spike in my traffic on the site. I'm talking like 4x. Yes, it's that attention-grabbing.

Don't be afraid to try non-standard means to drive your traffic.

Getting Stumbled is a Good Thing

I have seen many blogs that like to give out a bit of 'link love' every now and then, just as I did the other day.

I was looking at my traffic log and noticed something interesting...the aforementioned post had been stumbled and was generating traffic. Wow...I've never had a stumbled post actually do what it was designed to do before!

That has me wondering, should giving out linkage be a normal thing for this blog?

I mean, the author of one of the posts I linked to returned the favor with a stumble, which does two things: 1) give my post more traffic and 2) gives his post more traffic from my site.

In business, we call this a win-win situation. If you are not doing this, why not? I believe I will be handing out links more often!

Just so you know, the post came from a great site that dwells in my RSS feed reader called Gather Little By Little. It's a very inspirational site - on several different levels! Go! Read! Stumble! Enjoy!

Advertising – Price Drop!

I have decided to lower the prices of advertising on this site for a while, just to see how things work out.

This site had almost 900 impressions in February. I realize that's not a huge number, but it is nice (for me) to know that we ARE receiving traffic.

The new rates for advertising break down like this:

125×125 Advertisement Block - $7.00/month (down from $10.oo)

Toplist Placement: $1.00 (via ScratchBack)

Reviews of your site - $10.00 (a quick overview of your site and what I think of it…honestly, generally between 50-100 words, unless I have a reason to go beyond that. Down from $25.00)

Sponsor a Post - $1.00 (gets you a link at the end of one post, down from $2.50)

I am also able to trade advertising space or stuff if you don't want to pay for the advertising space. I'm flexible, and will even negotiate prices.

Arkayne – Similar Post Finding Plug-In Thingy

Arkayne is a tool that helps increase traffic to your blog by adding 'related article' links at the end of your posts.

From their own words:

What Is Arkayne

Ever find an awesome page and wish you could find more like it?

  • So you turn to the archives... nothing.
  • Then your favorite search engine or two.. nothing.
  • Hair pulling and violent typing begins.. nothing.
  • After a few precious minutes of filtering through garbage you move on with your day.

This is a feeling I hate having as I walk away from a good blog post. Which is why I created Arkayne, the sole purpose is to make sure you find another article as similar as possible to the one you just read. We all like to have good options. Now that you have a sense of accomplishment let your readers experience Arkayne in your blog...

Automatically link your pages with similar content via Arkayne! You provide the content, Arkayne links your page with users surfing similar topics. Try it, the results are awesome!

I have installed the plug-in on The Project, and so far it seems to be doing it's job. It is, however, still in beta, so in the future it may become something a bit more mainstream for driving traffic to your posts.

The verdict is still pending (since I just installed it yesterday) as to whether or not it drives significant traffic to this site.

Perhaps I should start watching my stats more closely.
