Third Quarter Earnings Report
Welcome back! Have you joined my mailing list yet?
Hey, does anyone remember how I set a goal of earning $500 online this year?
The reason I had picked such a seemingly low number was that I wasn't sure that I could pull it off. I mean, I knew almost nothing at all about blogging for money, freelancing, or affiliate marketing when I started this blog. It really started out more as a fun project and then evolved into a money-making monster.
OK, maybe not a monster, but at least I've had some fun with it.
The third quarter of 2008 was the quarter in which I reached my goal.
I also figured out how to tap into the Digital Point forums to find little bits of cash here and there (mostly ranging from $1-$5 for completing offers and anywhere from $3.00 to $25.00 for freelance projects).
So, want to see the totals? I knew you would...
Third Quarter 2008 Earnings: $396.94
The Breakdown:
Adspace: $20.00
Paid Postings: $161.00
Freelance: $59.00
GPT Offers: $75.46
Affiliate Commission: $68.00
Miscellaneous: $13.48
Year to date earnings: $761.75
I'm a bit concerned about the fourth quarter of 2008, because my new job keeps me away from home most of the time, and I don't have a decent laptop that I can take with me. I need to get one, but so far have had no luck. Most of the money I've made online has gone to help with necessities and things for the family.
I doubt it, but I think I'll try to break $1000 this year. It'll be a stretch, but a fun goal to try to reach.

Second Quarter Earnings Report
At midnight last night, the year was officially at it's half-way point. Yep, we can now start calling it 2008.5...ok, that's a dumb joke. What isn't dumb is this: making money online is a fun thing. That's part of the reason I started blogging semi-seriously. Of course, a recent commenter made me think about something: do people realize why I blog the way I do? Probably not, based on the comment.
As some of my long-term readers may know, I set a goal this year. That goal was to make $500 dollars online. I think that some people are surprised by such a low number. In fact, I'm pretty certain it makes them question the validity of this whole thing. I get a lot of responses like 'wow, that's not much', or 'that's a hard goal?' I'm not sure if these folks have any idea why I set such a 'low' goal.
For starters, $500 (at least to me) is a pretty big chunk of change. Especially when you look at it in the context of 'spending money'. I figured $500 would be a decent goal for a couple of reasons. First, and I will admit this, it isn't a HUGE achievement to make $500 bucks. At my job, I can do that in a few days. The deal was, however, that I had to make this online. I had a starting budget of literally $0, so the trick was to find a way to make money with ZERO INVESTMENT to start.
Second, I work full time. When I come home, usually the only thing I really feel like doing is falling asleep leaning against the outside of the front door. So I needed something I could do with relatively little time or effort...hence the one year part of the goal. I needed to make sure I had enough time to reach my goal, otherwise I would feel let down, get depressed about the venture, and just give up altogether.
So what kind of progress have I made? Well, since you asked...
First Quarter Earnings: $140.36
Second Quarter: $224.45
Part of the reason for the higher rate has been the addition of some freelance writing to my list of moneymakers. Here's a more detailed breakdown of where the money comes from:
ReviewMe: $30.00
PayPerPost: $25.00
Bloggerwave: $10.00
EWF Media: $21.45
Blog to Profit: $12.00
SponsoredReviews: $6.50
BloggingAds: $15.00
Private Reviews/Freelance: $104.50
Yep, that's right. Writing for other people has earned almost HALF of what my PPP and GPT stuff made for the quarter combined.
If you haven't checked out Digital Point forums, you really should go have a look. Not only can you find jobs on there (even ones that pay 2 or 3 bucks add up over time and generally don't take long to complete), but when you have a minimum number of posts you can add your AdSense code to the site to get your ads served!
That pretty much wraps up this quarterly earnings report. I did not include pending payments, only what I have been paid. Also, I won some stuff...so stick around for a post on that coming in the near future!

First Quarter Earnings Report
Earnings YTD: $140.36
To recap, my goal (as of Jan. 1) was to make $500.00 online before the end of the year. Why such a small amount? Simple: I want to set small, easy to reach goals for myself, because when I reach the goal, I will be more likely to extend the goal to the next level, and have a solid foundation to prove that it can be accomplished.
Overview of Earnings:
- Sponsored Posts: $114.36 - The majority of the sponsored posts came from PayPerPost (my most active PPP program) with only $3.25 coming from SponsoredReviews and another $20.00 received from All Enthusiast, Inc. for posting on a topic featured in a 'blogging challenge'.
- Online Auctions: $12.25 - Just one sale on eBay. I need to go to some yard sales.
- Contest Winnings: $10.00 - Yes, blog contests can be worth the effort (especially when Ryan does a contest with an INSANE list of prizes!).
- Donations: $3.75 - Yes, I actually did get a donation. It came from one of the participants in the contest I held a while back. Thank you!
Goals for the Second Quarter:
This one is easy: I would like to earn at least $150.00 in the next three months. Hopefully the PPP will work as it has before (or better), and I would also like to see some advertising space being sold as well.
