Review of WPDesigner.com

Welcome back! Have you joined my mailing list yet?

It is beginning to get close to the time that I will start thinking about finding a new host for this site. Yep, I like the company I'm with, but I simply won't be able to afford to extend it. Especially since they like for you to pay for a full year at once. That's not happening.

What will happen is that I will be shopping around, and one of the first places I will be looking is WPDesigner.com. They provide a list of the top ten best webhosting companies on the net, in their opinion.

This web hosting review site does not beat around the bush. Their top 10 list is right there, out in the open, so that when the page loads, it is the first thing that you see. This design technique makes using WPDesigner.com a very easy experience. Face it, the last thing you need is a difficult website to wade through trying to figure out which host is the best, right?

Anyway, the site is nicely put together. The only real criticism I have is that their top list contains a few hosts I've never heard of. Not that it is a bad thing, but compared to many other top hosting sites out there, it tends to give the appearance of promoting their affiliates over well-known companies.

Hey, gotta love the affiliates, right?

I'm giving WPDesigner.com an 8 out of 10. Nicely done.

Just how much bandwidth do you need, Bob?

Look out, it's pay-per-megabit! If you are needing some serious bandwidth (as in, you are either John Chow or planning to be Slashdotted sometime soon) you may want to check this out.

From PRWeb:

Netriplex releases Uber Bandwidth (http://UberBandwidth.com), a new high-performance, premium Internet connectivity network designed specifically for Web 2.0. Uber Bandwidth costs $3.99 per megabit and is initially available at Netriplex's newest data center in North Carolina.

Asheville, NC (PRWEB) October 20, 2008 -- Netriplex, a leading U.S. data center provider, announced today the release of Uber Bandwidth (http://UberBandwidth.com), a new high-performance, premium Internet connectivity network designed specifically for Web 2.0. Uber Bandwidth costs $3.99 per megabit and is initially available at Netriplex's newest data center in North Carolina.

Jonathan Hoppe, Netriplex's Chief Technology Officer, explains: "Businesses are increasingly using the Internet for mission critical applications. With the proliferation of VOIP, video-on-demand and social networking, our customers demand high-performance Internet connectivity in unprecedented quantity. Uber Bandwidth was created to meet their needs with an extreme network featuring multiple ten-gigabit connections to every major network in the U.S., Canada and Europe which is then available to our customers for $3.99 per megabit."

Uber Bandwidth is available at Netriplex's newest data center in Asheville, North Carolina. Netriplex offers collocation from 1 rack unit all the way up to 1000 sq. ft. plus private suites. Through IT infrastructure colocation, customers can acquire Uber Bandwidth and direct access to thousands of networks through Uber's 1-terabit-capable infrastructure featuring a diverse path fiber network powered by best-of-breed Cisco routers and switches, intrusion protection systems and proprietary best-path internet routing engines.

"Today's Web 2.0 online businesses no longer settle for data centers with just a few transit providers. The Uber Bandwidth network gives customers the fastest and shortest path to the end user. It 'leap frogs' networks they traditionally had to transit, shaving valuable time off the trip and increasing performance," states Hoppe.

Through 24/7/365 support and remote-hands-and-eyes services, businesses anywhere in the world can colocate servers in Netriplex data centers. As demand for the Uber Bandwidth network grows, Netriplex will deploy it at its six other datacenters across the U.S. and London.

Review: DotEasy – Web Hosting

After all of the trouble I have had in the past with hosting services, one would think that I would be completely jaded toward hosting companies. And although I have settled on my present host, I would like to share some information about another host (of whom I have heard quite a few good reports), http://doteasy.com/ (DotEasy).

One of the things I look for in a host is their budget hosting plan (since I'm cheap). DotEasy offers a free (that's zero bucks, folks) hosting plan that features 100mb storage, 1 GB of transfer (per month), 10 email accounts (each with 5mb storage), multimedia support, and best of all NO forced banner ads. This free account would be ideal for your simple brochure site. This plan does not offer PHP or MySQL support, so you might want to consider one of their paid plans for running that silly blog of yours.

Speaking of paid plans, their most expensive plan runs $20.00 per month, billable in three month blocks. It features 20 GB storage and bandwidth is not metered, so your multimedia blog would be right at home (with room to stretch) on this plan.

If you would like more information on DotEasy and their sweet hosting packages, you can click here:

Doteasy - web hosting

If things ever go horribly wrong with my current host, I would seriously consider using DotEasy.

Kicking Myself…

The other day, I was thinking about a website that I used to run. It was an alumni site for my High School...it got a fair amount of traffic (not much), mostly from people who were interested in seeing who was doing what these days.

I also noticed that many of my users were also members of other alumni sites. Sites that charge money to allow you to keep up with your friends. *shudder*

Of course, that was a few years ago. And this is the part where I kick myself.

Why didn't I monetize that site? It would have been a great idea. Unfortunately, I was a bit less intelligent in those days when it came to business.

Perhaps I shall have to revive that site. I'm wondering if my host allows multiple sites on my hosting plan? If not, I know some other inexpensive hosts who's entry-level plans would do the trick for hosting that site. After all, it was a small school!

My question is this: have any of you had the misfortune of regretting a business decision you didn't make (other than Google stocks or something like that...we all regret not getting into that)?

Do tell!
