Dropbox: Sync and Backup Your Files! Free!
I just finished upgrading my computer from XP Home to XP Pro. Nice huh? Not really, because it wasn’t something that I chose to do. Let’s give a big had to people who write worms, huh? The system went from working fine to not even booting into safe mode in all of 30 minutes. To top it off, I couldn’t even get remove the virus using Ubuntu Linux (which I normally can do), thanks to the hard drive being read only! To make a long story short, I ended up reinstalling the OS. It’s just too bad for me that I didn’t find out about Dropbox sooner.
Dropbox is a desktop application (Windows/Mac) that allows you to synchronize all of your important files between your different systems by simply dropping them into a folder. In addition, the free account will give you up to 2gb storage (you can get more storage space by upgrading to a paid account).
If I would have known about this before, I would have saved a lot of files that I didn’t need to lose.
One other cool feature of Dropbox is that it has a public folder where you can add your files, right click and get a public URL for that file (great for sharing your data with other team members). Now that’s a cool feature.
