Out of Time?
Welcome back! Have you joined my mailing list yet?
As a truck driver, I am required by law to keep a log book of all my time spent on duty and driving, as well as showing when I am off duty.
I also have been feeling quite stressed out lately. A while back I quit my weekend radio gig, which has given me more free time, which I have desperately needed. Still, it feels like there's not enough time in the day, and consequently I stay up way too late and go to work way too early (i.e., 2:30 AM tomorrow) which isn't safe or healthy.
I was wondering how much ACTUAL free time I had on a daily basis. Is there something I could do to make my free time more efficient? Do I really have to depend on four hours of sleep each night?
So today, I did the math.
Mind you, I'm no mathematician, so this could be completely inaccurate.
Here's the formula I came up with:
((hrs per month) - (work + sleep + set obligations)) / days per month = avg. "free" time per day
For example:
Last month, there were 30 days (720 hours). I worked 226.25 hours, attended church services (including driving) for 28 hours, and slept (yeah right) for 7 hours per day (not even close, but used to represent what I should be sleeping) which comes to 210 hours of theoretical sleep.
720 - 226.25 = 493.75 hours not at work.
493.75 - 28 = 465.75 hours not working or attending church services.
465.75 - 210 (yeah right) = 255.75 hours of non-dedicated time.
255.75 hours / 30 days = 8.525 hours per day of "free" time.
Perhaps there is enough time in the day. I should just learn to be more efficient with my spare time.
