Can You Make Money with Video Games?

Welcome back! Have you joined my mailing list yet?

Hey, if it makes money on the net, I'm usually looking into it. Here's another angle you may (or may not) want to check out.

To be honest, I've never played World of Warcraft. I know, Shoemoney would probably have a cow. So what if I'm behind the times? So here's where the money comes in. I've heard that you can sell your World of Warcraft accounts...so you play the game, build your characters or whatever, then bail. Sounds like a good plan to me...heh.

First, you are going to need to buy the game. Then, you will probably want to go over to BuyMMOAccounts.com and buy wrath of the lich king WoW access cards (in order to play). Then, just build it up and sell the whole thing to your friends. Nice, eh?

OK, I have no idea whether this will work or not. Like I said, it's just a far fetched idea from my point of view. But hey, who knows. Anybody have any experience selling your video game accounts?

What’s New?

Not much, really. I've been a bit lazy lately when it comes to posting new material. OK, maybe not lazy, but definitely distracted with everyday life.

Here's a couple of things:

First, I'm considering changing hosts. Nothing against this one, but I won't be able to afford it when it comes time to renew.

Second, I've got a very good domain name expiring soon, and I need to figure out a way to save it. No money equals no way to renew it, though.

Third, I still am in desperate need of a laptop so I can work on things from my truck. Not only am I behind on this site, but a couple others as well AND in my freelance work. Any suggestions are welcome.

That's all for now. I may do another post in a bit.

Using Craigslist to Drive Traffic to Your Blog

This week, something political was happening that I felt was very...bad. So I wrote up a post (or a couple plus an email) and put it on one of my blogs. It was so major that I even posted it to Craigslist in my local area.

Somebody also thought it was a good idea, and posted it to their local Craigslist page.

If you have a good blog post that you feel should be shared with people, don't be afraid to throw it to the wolves at Craigslist (specifically in the categories like Music, Politics, etc.). You never know how much traffic will come in from it.

In my case, the post caused a major spike in my traffic on the site. I'm talking like 4x. Yes, it's that attention-grabbing.

Don't be afraid to try non-standard means to drive your traffic.

14 Common SEO Mistakes and Errors

This post is originally from BlogHighlight.com.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is one of the very effective way to drive natural and targeted traffic from search engines to our websites. Recently SEOMoz has published 12 common SEO mistakes and errors made by newcomers. It is always great to learn from mistakes and experience. I would like to take this opportunity to share with all of you the common seo errors so that we can something and not making same mistake in the future.

Here are the summary list of 12 common SEO mistakes and errors which all of us should not do it.

#1 Repetitive Keyword Targeting

When you are targeting a keyword or key phrase, it is good have it appeared in title tag, H1 tag and content. But it is not necessary to have shown in every page of your website.

#2 Splitting Efforts Across Many Domains

If you have register 500 domains under a single web server and trying to link all of them back to your main domain, please stop doing it. Google prefers links from different IP address you should focus on getting quality links.

#3 Reciprocal Linking

If you are creating a link list page which is used for link trading with other websites, then this kind of reciprocal links should be avoided. But if you are linking to an authority site and somehow that site also links back to your website, then this is the reciprocal linking we can have.

#4 Keyword Stuffing

As I mentioned in one of my previous blog post, keyword stuffing is some king of spamming technique which is outdated and can be easily detected by search engines.

#5 Blocking Bots Access to Duplicate Content

It is certainly not a good idea to block search engine crawlers to access duplicated content. The better way is to use 301 redirect or new canonical tag released by Google.

#6 Avoiding XML Sitemaps

XML sitemaps is very helpful to guide search engines what are the content in your website. If you do not have it implemented, you should do it immediately.

#7 Blocking Bots Rather than Using Nofollow

Again, blocking search engine bots is a bad way if you do not want to give link juice to your destination page of the link. Instead you should use nofollow link attribute.

#8 Paranoia About Registering with Google Webmaster Tools

There is nothing to afraid to register your website with Google’s Webmaster Tools. In fact, you can have insights exception report when Google crawler access your web pages.

#9 Ignoring Non-Google Search Engines

Although Google is the biggest player in the search engine industry, you should not ignore other search engines such as Yahoo and MSN Live. The truth is it is easier to rank better in those search engines and it can drive you significant traffic.

#10 Using Google’s Link Command

The result of Google’s link command only represents part of what Google knows. To certain extent, it can be considered as accurate enough to give you a rough idea of how popular is your web page or website. You should not too depend on the result returned.

#11 Submitting Articles for Links

By submitting articles to directories and article repositories, you gain valuable backlinks. But you should avoid submitting same article to multiple website as this is considered duplicated content.

#12 Chasing DoFollow Blogs

Although dollow blogs do give you inbound links when you make comments. You no need to just concentrate on this strategy as they are many other ways to gain backlinks.

In addition, I have 2 SEO mistakes worth to mention.

#13 Internal Linking

While chasing for backlinks or inbound links, many people forget to do internal linking. Internal linking is also an important factor during the search engine ranking evaluation. If you have enough internal links, you can rank higher in search engine results even you have less inbound links compared to your competitors.

I have 2 blog posts discussing about the importance and practical technique of internal linking which you might be interested to read more.

  1. High Google Ranking With Internal Linking
  2. 2 Practical Internal Linking Techniques

#14 Consistency

To achieve high rankings in search engine is not 1 or 2 days job. You need to be consistent over a long period of time. It takes time for you to build backlinks and watching your search engine rankings climbing from day to day. It is not going to happen overnight. In addition, you should update your SEO knowledge regularly as search engines keep on improving and changing rules.

Conclusion

Nobody is perfect. As long as you are willing to learn from the SEO mistakes and errors, you should be able to get high rankings in search engine result pages. Let’s learn together to achieve our goals.

Breaking News: Entrecard now allowing credit sales!

This just came across the wire from Entrecard:

Greetings Entrecarders!

Today I have VERY important news for the entire Entrecard community. In approximately one week, we will be co-launching an Ad Network and a Credit Cashout Service. What this means, immediately to you, is the following:

A real ad network
We will be opening as much as 50% of our ad impressions network-wide to third party advertisers. We will be accepting cash payments to run 125x125 advertisements through our widget network. Ads will be sold as run of network, or targeted by category, for a low CPM rate to be announced. Please plan your daily entrecard ad purchasing accordingly. Whereas before, when you purchased an ad, you were buying a minimum of 100% of the impressions, you are now buying a minimum of 50%. However, the maximum is still 100% of the impressions, because if we have no ads booked for that category, or for the network, for any given day, you will still get all of the impressions.
Exchange your credits for CASH
With the money we make selling as much as 50% of our network impressions, we will purchase your credits from you, and delete them from the system. This means we're going to let you sell credits for cash, right from your dashboard! This has been the single most requested feature since we launched Entrecard. Members have clamored for a way to sell Entrecard credits for cash, but the same problem always arose: where does the money come from to let people sell their credits? How do we use our greatest resource (millions of daily impressions across ~60 niches) to benefit everyone? After much deliberation, the answer became clear. We must open up our ad network, and funnel the proceeds of the entire operation back to you, the members!

The state of the economy

The state of the world's economy is grim. We are in a global recession. People need simple ways to make money now more than ever before. Therefore, it became our imperative to turn Entrecard into a viable way for bloggers to make money. We think we've figured out a great way to do this. By allowing you to cash out your credits, and allowing you to earn credits by selling products and services in ourmarket, advertising on your blog, publishing on your blog, and dropping cards, we're making big moves to help you earn a second income.

In parallel, the Entrecard economy has been in a state of inflation since day one. Every day, more credits are created than are deleted. As of writing this, there are 44 million credits in the Entrecard economy, and we're adding more each day. This is not sustainable, and so it has become clear that we need a more efficient way than advertising taxes to eliminate credits from the economy. The good news is that if this works, we'll be able to lower the advertising tax.

So, by paying you cash for your credits, and then wiping them from the system, we estimate that we can delete as many as 1 to 2 million credits per day. This will immediately shift the economy into DEFLATION, which means your credits will become MORE valuable, instead of less valuable, both in their purchasing power and in their monetary value.

Finally, Entrecard has needed a solid revenue model since day one. We are excited to have settled on a viable revenue model that allows us to make money at the same time as passing on the majority of our revenues back to you. For any given day, we will take 75% of our revenues and pass them on to you by way of cashing out your credits. We will take the remaining 25% for ourselves to grow the business as a solid revenue source.

What if I don't want these ads on my site?

We have always prided ourselves in being a service that offers you complete control over what does and does not appear on your site. Yet, at the same time, we're forced to mitigate this ideal with our decision to launch a more traditional ad network, as a way to make you money, restore the economy to balance, and make some money for ourselves.

We will continue to allow you to reject any ad you wish. However, to reject ads from paying advertisers, you will need to pay a credit fee for each ad you wish to reject. We don't know how much this will be just yet.

New Above-the-fold rule

If this is going to work for everyone, we must also mandate an above-the-fold rule. Thus moving forward, it is necessary for all Entrecard members place their widget above the fold to maintain an active account. The rule won't go into effect until we launch our ad network, which is about a week away, so please plan accordingly and make the necessary changes as soon as possible.

To recap

You can boil this down to the following 4 bullet points:

  1. In a week, we're launching an ad network where anyone can advertise through Entrecard widgets for CPM rates. This can be run of network advertising, or targeted by category. We are making available 50% of our inventory, or approximately 40 million monthly impressions.
  2. With the money we make, we are going to buy credits back from you. You will be allowed to sell credits via your dashboard, and we will devote 75% of daily sales to buying credits back.
  3. The economy will no longer be in a state of inflation, but rather in deflation which means your credits will gradually start becoming more valuable.
  4. For all this to work, we must institute an above-the-fold rule, which goes into effect in a weeks.
We realize these are pretty huge changes, and there are going to be a lot of questions. This is part of the reason we're announcing this a week early, so we can field all the questions, address everyone's concerns, and all get on the same page.
Looks like I need to move that Entrecard widget. That's my only real gripe here. I've got other things above the fold that I'd much rather be seen right off the bat. Meh. Ah well, if it doesn't work I can always just remove the Entrecard widget totatlly.
