Deborah over at Freelance Writing Jobs has given me some link love on her latest end-of-the-year-link-love post!

If you haven’t seen her blog, now would be a good time to do so, rather than wasting your time pretending to work on that spreadsheet or reading this drivel.

It’s just full of articles about writing, inspiration, and making money doing so.  Perhaps my favorite thing is her linkage, not just because I was included this time, but she always has something interesting to read.

AND…she posts links to writing gigs!  Awesome!

Deb, you probably won’t read this, but thank you!  Love your stuff!

And happy new year!

1001 Bloggers Needed!

I received this comment on my Less Is More post:

Would you be kind enough to consider taking part in the 1001 Bloggers page which is at http://mencap.wordpress.com

We have just started, and we have about 30 links in place at present, leaving just 970 to go. I hope you will feel able to take a look.

I picked your blog because of the ‘blogging’ tag on your recent post, via the wordpress homepage.

If you have any queries about the 1001 Bloggers page, or if you just want to check this isn’t spam, please feel free to email me at davidtheheads.co.uk

Kind regards

David

Mencap is a UK charity that helps to fund learning disability research (I could be wrong on that, I didn’t check too deep into it).

The 1001 Bloggers project is to raise money for this charity. There are 1001 squares where you can have your avatar featured (which links to your blog) at the cost of about $10 U.S. They still need about 972 bloggers to reach their goal (at the time of this posting).

Due to circumstances at home, I cannot donate right now, but perhaps you can! Not only do you get more traffic for your blog (which is right up your alley if you write about learning disabilities), but you help a good cause.

Check it out! Tell ‘em The Sugarbuzz Project sent ya!

Less is More?

I was washing a load of clothes today and I noticed something stupid.

As I neared the bottom of the bottle of laundry detergent concentrate, I thought…why does it say on the back of the bottle that a small bottle of concentrate washes the same amount of clothes as a large bottle?

Perhaps that is true that less detergent is needed to do the same amount of laundry, but why does the smaller bottle cost more?  More importantly, why is the concentrated, more expensive bottle called a good purchase value?

No doubt the marketing geniuses figured that people would buy it because it’s better and more concentrated.  Sure, it costs more.  Naturally I’m sure it costs more to make it (probably not).

If that is the case, one can save money by purchasing the cheaper detergent that does the same amount of laundry AND gets the clothes just as clean.

In conclusion, if the cheaper (yet larger) bottles get your clothes just as clean then there is no need to spend extra dough on a marketing ploy that targets people who are mathematically challenged.

Finding Hosting that Fits Your Needs

There are many different sites on the web for finding cheap (or good) hosting for your website or blog. I want to talk about http://www.webhostingchoice.com.

One of the first things that strikes my fancy about this site is the up-front search feature that allows you to enter your preferred maximum monthly cost, setup fee, disk space, and bandwidth requirements. After that, just hit the submit button and off you go! They also have an advanced search feature, which gives you the power to search by other features, uptime guarantee, and many other options (including payment options, including PayPal).

There was one glitch that I found with the site. It gives you a link where you can submit host companies for inclusion, but I received a fatal error when doing this. For me, as long as the search feature is working it’s all good.

One other highlight: they have a decent FAQ for newbies, and even a short primer on how to spot potential scams by hosting companies with less-than-scrupulous intentions.

I would recommend this site if you are looking for a new web host. Very nice indeed.

[ ! ] :: Coffee Mug!

We are pleased to present:

[ ! ] The Sugarbuzz Project - Coffee Mug!

A high-tech coffee mobilization device with a ergonomically-challenged grasping area and the logo of one The Sugarbuzz Project.

These coffee cups, which feature our logo, run about $12.94 plus shipping and what-not.  We don’t get that whole amount, just a little bit.  The whole point is that we do benefit, and it helps us get closer to our goal of being able to purchase a domain name, some hosting, perhaps a new laptop (that isn’t a 12+ year old beast), or even some caffeine to help fuel the fire.

I also plan to add more products in the future, perhaps tee-shirts, stickers, and other things.  I may even add things not blatantly related to this site.

Please check out the mugs.  It would help us all to have a better internet experience.

And we all know that we need a better experience!
